As a Rehabilitation Innovation Center, UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center (Spain Rehab, or SRC) is designated by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as a facility leading the nation in innovative care and research. We provide inpatient and outpatient care to improve patients’ long-term function and quality of life. Spain Rehab is the hub for UAB Medicine’s Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems, Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems, and the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Data Center.

What is rehabilitation medicine?
Rehabilitation medicine is focused on caring for people with disabling medical conditions. This care includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing therapy and management.
Rehabilitation medicine covers a wide range of disabling conditions divided into four main groups:
- Stroke
- Spinal cord injury
- Traumatic/acquired brain injury
- General/multi-trauma rehabilitation
