Musculoskeletal Conditions

Overview

Musculoskeletal (MSK) rehabilitation addresses pain, weakness, and limited function due to injuries or disorders affecting the bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and joints.

UAB Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Musculoskeletal Medicine and Spine Clinic specializes in the diagnosis and non-operative management of sports-related injuries, work-related injuries, arthritis, neck/back pain, and other types of MSK-related problems. This clinic can perform diagnostic and therapeutic injections, electrodiagnostic testing (EMG/NCS), ultrasound-guided procedures, spinal injections under fluoroscopy, osteopathic manual medicine, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.

Our Approach

We offer evidence-based care to restore mobility and function. Our rehab plans often include strengthening, manual therapy, ergonomic training, and education. Our team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physical and occupational therapists, orthotists and prosthetists, as well as neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists — working together to provide comprehensive treatment. After careful evaluation and diagnostic testing, these specialists will develop a holistic and personalized treatment plan for each patient.

What to Expect

Therapists develop personalized exercises and strategies for safe movement. Assistive devices and pain management may be included as part of your care.
