Burns Rehabilitation

Overview

Inpatient burn rehabilitation at UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center is specialized, multidisciplinary care for people recovering from burn injuries. Patients receive three or more hours of therapy each day — including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy — under the guidance of a physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physician. Wound management, emotional support, and 24/7 nursing care are also central parts of our program.

Our goal is to promote healing, restore function, and support your emotional well-being. We use advanced medical techniques and personalized therapy to meet each patient’s needs.

Our Approach

Our burn rehabilitation team collaborates closely with UAB’s acute burn care providers and includes a wide range of specialists who tailor care plans to address both physical and emotional recovery. Treatment focuses on scar management, contracture prevention, pain control, and rebuilding independence through holistic rehabilitation.

What to Expect

Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan aimed at restoring function, confidence, and comfort. Therapy is structured around your goals and includes regular progress checks. Emotional health support is integrated into care. Your team begins planning for future home or outpatient service needs early in your stay.
